¶ Mailman 3 — Subscribing to course e-mailing lists
Mailman 3 is the mailing list management system.
With a list, you can receive updates/announcements or take part in discussions via email.
¶ 1) Basic concepts
- List (mailing list): Course lists have the form
<course number>@list.csd.uoc.gr(e.g.,hy100@list.csd.uoc.gr). - Previous name: The previous list name redirects to the new one (e.g.,
hy100-list@csd.uoc.gr→hy100@list.csd.uoc.gr). - Courses offered in both Winter and Spring: Courses that are offered in both the winter and spring semester of the same academic year are distinguished with a and b, respectively. (e.g., for HY119: winter list is
hy119a@list.csd.uoc.grand spring list ishy119b@list.csd.uoc.gr). - Course emails: The course email addresses remain unchanged:
<course number>@csd.uoc.gr(e.g., course HY100 has the course emailhy100@csd.uoc.grand the mailing listhy100@list.csd.uoc.gr).
¶ 2) Subscribing to a list (Subscribe)
¶ A) Subscribe via the list’s web page
- Open the list site: https://lists.csd.uoc.gr
- Select the course you are interested in from the list.
- Fill in:
- First and last name
- Click Subscribe. (ignore the option for Sign In)
- You will receive a confirmation email. Reply to it (reply) without adding anything else.
- You will receive an email confirming that your subscription has been completed.
¶ 3) Email confirmation / “pending” status
If you subscribed but are not receiving messages:
- check Spam/Junk
- look for an email with a subject like “Your confirmation is needed”
- if the subscription does not complete, inform the administrator
¶ 4) How do I send a message to the list
Send an email to the list address (e.g., hy100@list.csd.uoc.gr).
Important:
- Send it from the email address you used to subscribe.
- Subscription and posting to the list are not allowed from email addresses outside the University of Crete (
*.uoc.gr) and the
Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (*.forth.gr).
¶ 5) Public archives (Archives)
Course lists provide a public message archive. Click Archives in the top horizontal menu, or follow this link: https://lists.csd.uoc.gr/hyperkitty/
For confidentiality reasons, the public Archives feature is accessible only from the institution’s networks, including via the VPN.
¶ 5) Unsubscribing from a list (Unsubscribe)
Unsubscribing from the lists, and general list cleanup, is carried out by the administrators shortly before the start of the next
academic year.
